How is AHHA different from MHI and IHSA?
AHHA (American Hydrogen Health Association) is an industry association that develops self-regulated standards for businesses based on the best available evidence. AHHA recognizes MHI’s research as a foundation for setting ethical guidelines and best practices in the industry.
MHI (Molecular Hydrogen Institute) provides scientific research, education, and certifications related to hydrogen health. AHHA members may refer to MHI’s certifications as part of establishing industry-wide requirements for product quality and transparency.
International Hydrogen Standards Association (IHSA) works on standardization efforts and guidelines.
AHHA is an industry-led association that applies scientific research to create practical industry guidelines and self-governing policies for ethical business practices.
Why was AHHA created?
AHHA was founded to unify the hydrogen health industry, set quality standards, and ensure consumer trust. Without a self-regulating body, the industry risks misinformation, low-quality products, and ethical concerns.
Who can join AHHA?
Right now, founding members (H2 brands/products) can join for only $500. Costs, requirements, and policies will be shaped after joining.
How is AHHA funded?
AHHA is funded through membership dues
What are the membership requirements?
Membership requirements will be determined through a democratic voting process by founding members. However, members must adhere to AHHA’s code of conduct and industry standards decided upon by its members.
Are there different membership tiers?
If the members agree to different tiers, then yes. This is completely up to the founding members how the tiers, costs, and benefits are structured.
Can a company have more than one member?
To be decided by the founding members.
How does the voting process work for major decisions?
To be determined by the founding members. Proposed policies and documents will be presented to founding members for comment prior to a vote.
How does AHHA establish and enforce industry standards?
AHHA develops industry-wide standards for product quality, scientific validation, ethical marketing, and research best practices. These standards are determined through scientific research, industry consensus, and input from MHI, IHSA, and other experts, with final policies voted on by members. As a self-regulating association, AHHA enforces compliance through warnings, probation, public delisting, or membership revocation, with penalties decided democratically by members. Companies voluntarily agree to uphold these standards, ensuring integrity and accountability within the industry.
Who runs AHHA?
You can see the current interim board of directors here. Ultimately, all decisions will be voted upon by the dues-paying members of AHHA.
What are AHHA’s priorities?
- Building the association’s infrastructure (website, bank account, legal recognition).
- Growing membership and onboarding founding companies.
- Voting on initial objectives (e.g., standards, code of conduct, penalties).
